STS-Med project wins the Emirates Energy Award standard

The winners of the Emirates Energy Award will be announced during an official cerimony in Dubai in October 2017. The STS-Med Solar Energy Project was selected to win one of these awards for the small projects category. The STS-Med Project team in Jordan has conducted a detailed study on the energy plant installed in Jordan within STS-Med to be submitted to the Award Jury. A celebration will be held in October 2017 under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates and Ruler of Dubai for the awarding of prizes to the winners. Solar energy expert Hany El-Nokrashy, a member of the advisory council formed by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi, spoke to Daily News Egypt about his five-year plan to attract foreign investment and the establishment of solar power plants in the coming period. STS-Med project focuses on the development, implementation and diffusion of pioneering solar technologies to improve energy efficiency in public buildings. The project has been deployed 4 demonstrative plants based on concentrating solar collectors for a total power of about 500 kW as a showcase for 20.000 end users and 20 Mediterranean local communities. The four plants have been designed through computer simulation and market validation of components and subsystems. NESTER Annual School on CST at the Cyprus Institute image

From the 7th until the 17th of November 2016, the Cyprus Institute will organize a School on Concentrated Solar Technologies (CST) in collaboration with four of the most prestigious Research Centres in Europe in this field: CIEMAT (Spain), CNRS-PROMES (France), ENEA (Italy) and RWTH-Aachen (Germany). This School is held under the NESTER (TWINNING) project (http://nester.cyi.ac.cy/) which is funded by the European Commission. The Board of Trustees of the Cyprus Institute (CyI) has ratified the appointment of Dr. Manuel Blanco as the EC-funded European Research Area (ERA) Chair holder in the field of Solar Thermal Energy. He will join the Energy Division of the Cyprus Institute’s Energy, Environment and Water Research Center (EEWRC).
